Meet FirsT wave Tiki

FIRST WAVE TIKI is the creative collaboration of husband-and-wife duo William La Gone Jr. (@kiltkid) and Kelly Strodl (@kelly4nia).

WHAT WE FIND. WHAT WE MAKE.

William’s longtime interest in vintage tiki bars, furniture, collectibles and the hunt for things with a good story comes together with Kelly’s background in creative work and her talent for turning discarded and overlooked homewares into something entirely new.

The result is a shop that brings together vintage finds, handmade pieces, upcycled goods and tropical treasures, with an emphasis on things that are a little unusual and often one of a kind.

Our shelves can include mugs from long-closed tiki bars, collectible prints, antique rattan furniture, tapa and barkcloth, Japanese glass floats and other vintage finds. Alongside those are things we make ourselves: hand-constructed lamps, carved pieces, custom-painted art, painted furniture, upcycled homewares and other experiments that don't fit neatly into a category.

NOT EVERYTHING WE MAKE BEGINS TIKI

We have a particular fondness for #antikis: things that may not have started out as tiki, but have the right ingredients to become something that belongs in the collection.

Some pieces are collected. Some are restored. Some are completely reworked. Some are made from scratch. The common thread is an appreciation for good materials, interesting objects, tropical design and the possibilities hiding in things that might otherwise be overlooked.

OUR THIRD LITTLE MOAI

Our latest evolution started with the loss of our fur baby, Gambit (@gambitthefrenchie), who passed in June 2025 after a long and wonderful life. The world's cutest little pineapple was a regular companion at sales and events, and he's still right there in our logo.

The void he left was a big one. Over the past year, we really dug into making things, putting that energy into lamps, paintings, carvings, upcycled pieces and all sorts of new ideas. A lot of what First Wave Tiki has become grew out of that year of making.

We miss our little homie. We're also pretty sure he'd approve of the amount of stuff we've made.
